Personal log, supplemental

Captain’s Log

Make it write.

A local-first markdown writer for blog posts and essays, themed after LCARS. No accounts. No cloud. Files live on your disk where you put them, and the app stays offline.

02 Features

Local-first

No accounts, no sync, no cloud. Files live on your disk where you put them. The app is offline by default and stays that way.

Plain markdown

Auto-grow editor with live preview. YAML frontmatter is parsed and rendered out of the body. Find and replace built in.

LCARS aesthetic

Canonical Okuda palette, Antonio type, Newsreader serif for body copy. A working stardate readout. No scanlines, no kitsch.

Soft confirmation tones

Synthesized UI chirps with a volume slider and a mute switch. Live via Web Audio — no sample files to download.

Red alert klaxon

If you try to discard unsaved work the bridge goes red. Tasteful pulse, no flashing — and respects prefers-reduced-motion.

3D ship schematic

An animated ship page with a working warp drive. Press engage. It's there for the joy of it when you hit writer's block.

03 Install

Builds are unsigned. First launch will show a SmartScreen / Gatekeeper warning — see the install notes for the one-time bypass on each platform.

04 On screen
Captain's Log empty-editor view: orange LCARS top bar, left rail of file action buttons, and placeholder body text reading 'Captain's log, supplemental…'
Empty editor

Wally Mayfield

I made Captain’s Log because I wanted a writing app that lived on my disk and looked like the future the Enterprise was already running in 1987.
